Don Cranfill

Cranfill's Shooting Preserve will continue in business as CrannieMack Bird Hunting.

Don Cranfill former owner of Cranfill's Shooting Preserve was born on June 10, 1936 and passed away on September 23, 2009.

Don got his first bird dog in 1955. It was an english pointer. He raised his first litter of pups in 1957. In 1966 Don became manager of the Silver Spot Gun Club. He went on to create his own hunting preserve located northeast of Hillsboro. He also purchased a sactuary in 1991 that became a model soil, water and wildflife preserve. It was eventually purchased by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and is now an extension of the Coffeen Wildlife Area.

In 1981 Don won Dog of The Year for the National Shoot to Retrieve Circuit. In 1982 he won The Trial of Champions at the National Shoot to Retreive Field Trial.

Don Cranfill has hosted more than 15,000 hunts. He has been instrumental in raising money for many organizations in the area. He will be greatly missed by hunters across the nation.
